From the moment that the words of The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold gently found their way into my ears, yes I cheated and listened to the audiobook instead of reading the book, I fell in love with Alice Sebold. Her enthralling tale of the murder and rape of Susie Salmon and the aftermath was simply divine. It is a pity that her second novel was not as brilliant at the first. Now I have to see the movie which ,due to all the hype I have been giving to it, I fear will not live up to my expectations.

So that was Christmas 2009? Today just flew past. Nothing much out of the ordinary happened and as per eighteen year tradition, for me, I ended the day with more possessions than I started the day off with. I think it was a good haul though, not what I was expecting at all, especially not from family I hadn’t seeen for I don’t know how many years. Now it’s Boxing Day, I think it is now known as Day of Goodwill in South Africa but who knows, and the purpose of Boxing Day is unknown to me. Then again I hardly know the story behind almost any of the Public Holidays that I take for granted. Now is the time to start making New Year’s Resolutions. Maybe one of my resolutions will be to start writing film reviews for this, my blog.

I hope that I did not leave any out. It’s strange how it does not seem that I only watched this amount of 2009 films, I suppose it’s the effect that living in an African country has on when we get films compared to other parts of the world. Though occasionally we do get movies before other places strangely enough. This post is quite boring and I sincerely apologize for that. I’ll be more interesting in future, I promise.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Yeah Yeah Yeahs are officially my favourite artistes. They have justly climbed to the top of my Lastfm charts and with devotion will remain there until the Dusk of Time and beyond. My new life goal is to see them perform live. These few words cannot begin to describe my obsession with them, their videos are beautiful, their songs divine and their lyrics more lyriquotable than any other artist that I favour.

P.S. Lyriquotable: (adjective) able to be lyriquoted. see “Lyriquoting”

Lyriquoting: (verb) the act of quoting the lyrics of one’s favourite artists.

I have discovered that I have a trend for becoming obsessed with bands that have a female lead vocalist. Is it that female fronted bands are just so much better than their male counterparts? Or do they just hold more appeal with me? I suppose the trend started with Amy Lee and Evanescence but in fact I think the young, tender roots of this obsession were germinated with Shirley Manson and Garbage. Evanescence were my first favourite, until I discovered No Doubt and Gwen Stefani. Then, out of nowhere the feisty flame-haired Hayley Williams appeared on the scene with Paramore. It was love at first listen and the others were gently nudged aside by Paramore’s brilliance. Then my second mistress stole my heart, the infectious and awe-inspiring Karen O and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Also in my harem of female fronted bands are the delightful Emily Haines and Metric. Though I have a large harem, Karen O and Hayley Williams are by far my favourites and hold very special places in my heart and ears.

Sunglasses in the Wayfarer Style

Over the past few months I have slowly cultivated an unhealthy obsession with/lust after sunglasses in the style of the Ray-Ban Wayfarer. Each time that I see a celebrity or other person wearing a pair my lust escalates. In short before the year is up I hope to have acquired, through legal or illegal means, a pair of sunglasses in the Wayfarer style. I will settle for lesser imitations of the original or by some incredible stroke of luck, a pair of actual Ray-Bans.

Just a General Post

Okay it should be known straight away that this post serves no real purpose other than to hint at posts that may happen in the future. Currently my blog is a bit aimless and although I have a few ideas as to where I want to focus my attention, I have yet to actually pursue them. Currently I am favouring the whole reviewing idea. If you want to know my opinion on the films I see let me know and I will give it some more thought.
