Coming out of the weekend I can’t help but wonder what the hell happened. The results of last night include as follows: a cigar,, two lighters more than I started the night with, a polystyrene cup with Yeah Yeah Yeahs lyrics, a copy of an alternative magazine and a tribal pseudo-tattoo in black and silver bodypaint on my neck. On the negative side, because by way of comparison these random items are positive, we have a friendship currently hanging in limbo because of the events of friday night. These events are probably best left unsaid.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Yeah Yeah Yeahs are officially my favourite artistes. They have justly climbed to the top of my Lastfm charts and with devotion will remain there until the Dusk of Time and beyond. My new life goal is to see them perform live. These few words cannot begin to describe my obsession with them, their videos are beautiful, their songs divine and their lyrics more lyriquotable than any other artist that I favour.

P.S. Lyriquotable: (adjective) able to be lyriquoted. see “Lyriquoting”

Lyriquoting: (verb) the act of quoting the lyrics of one’s favourite artists.

I have discovered that I have a trend for becoming obsessed with bands that have a female lead vocalist. Is it that female fronted bands are just so much better than their male counterparts? Or do they just hold more appeal with me? I suppose the trend started with Amy Lee and Evanescence but in fact I think the young, tender roots of this obsession were germinated with Shirley Manson and Garbage. Evanescence were my first favourite, until I discovered No Doubt and Gwen Stefani. Then, out of nowhere the feisty flame-haired Hayley Williams appeared on the scene with Paramore. It was love at first listen and the others were gently nudged aside by Paramore’s brilliance. Then my second mistress stole my heart, the infectious and awe-inspiring Karen O and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Also in my harem of female fronted bands are the delightful Emily Haines and Metric. Though I have a large harem, Karen O and Hayley Williams are by far my favourites and hold very special places in my heart and ears.
